This study investigated what Vietnamese diplomatic envoys reported to the Vietnamese courts and the manner in which they did so during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Envoys of the Lê–Trịnh government sent reports to the court—which were a memorial [khải] to the Trịnh lord—when they stayed in Guangxi province during both their outward and return journeys. The envoys entrusted the reports to messengers such as interpreters, secretaries, or attendants for delivery to Thăng Long during their stay in the Nanning prefectural capital on the return journey. During the Nguyễn period, on their outward journeys, envoys reported their itinerary when they stayed in the Guangxi and Hubei provincial capitals; on their return journey, before returning to Vietnam, they reported their itinerary and approximate time of return from Guangxi province. All of the envoys’ report documents in the nineteenth century were memorials to the Nguyễn Emperor. In the nineteenth century, before Vietnamese envoys sent reports to the Nguyễn court, Qing officials such as the Grand Coordinator of Guangxi and Huguang’s Supreme Commander would check their drafts.

This article reviews the research on ancient maps of Vietnam by domestic and foreign scholars from 1896 to 2022. From the viewpoint of cartography, research during this period focuses on the following issues: (1) cartographical theory, (2) research on the history of ancient Vietnamese maps, (3) bibliography, (4) study of cartographic texts, (5) interpretation and introduction. The conclusion shows that most of the research and discussion focuses on ancient maps, especially the collections of Hồng Đức maps, Thăng Long maps, Hoang Sa maps... The results of these studies form a solid foundation for the promising steps of historical cartography in the future.

This research uses a historical approach to clarify the important role of King Trần Thái Tông in establishing the political system, governing the country and people, and building the cultural and ideological foundation for Đại Việt society during the Trần dynasty. The article analyzes Trần Thái Tông's proactive choice of Buddhism as the key to long-term peace and stability, inheriting the cultural and social heritage of the Lý dynasty, and applying Buddhist thought and wisdom to build and develop the country. In this sense, Trần Thái Tông is an important historical figure who played the role of a bridge between Buddhism of the Lý and Trần dynasties. Besides, the research affirms the significant contributions of King Trần Thái Tông to Buddhism and the unification of Buddhism during the Trần dynasty.

This annotated translation presents for the first time in English the complete text of “On Teachers and Friends” 師友第五, Chapter Five in Nam-sơn tùng-thoại南山叢話, a text authored by late Nguyễn scholar-official Nguyễn Đức-Đạt 阮德達 (1825-1887). In this chapter, Nguyễn expounds the different roles which the teacher-figure and friends play as guides and aides to learning and moral cultivation. Although he recognizes the necessity of teachers during the initiatory stages of learning, Nguyễn champions the role of friends in bringing that learning to completion. While Nam-sơn tùng-thoại is thematically and stylistically eclectic, this chapter is not without passages that reveal a fundamentally Neo-Confucian underpinning to Nguyễn’s understanding of human nature, moral cultivation, and interpersonal relationships.

This paper introduces an innovative and interesting idea for teaching Vietnamese. Although the exchange between countries has recently become much easier, many Vietnamese language learners still lack opportunities to be exposed to real-life Vietnamese language and culture. To solve this problem, distance learning - online learning - is a very timely solution that can meet some of the lacking needs for quality teachers and boring programs. However, many packaged online teaching programs are still lacking in direct interaction functionality; and the learning content is still formulaic. With the motto "learning through action", "learning by playing", learning as an exciting adventure, the research group proposes the idea of a Vietnamese language teaching program embedded in an exciting adventure game to explore Vietnamese culture and life according to the specific needs of the learners. Virtual reality technology will support the players to immerse themselves in the space and practice language and culture more naturally and vividly. Especially, the program will integrate automatic communication between learners and the information management system, but also have a space for real communication between learners and instructors when scheduled or upon request, and a space for communication for those who are learning Vietnamese together. In addition to providing language skills, cultural knowledge, and social skills, the program also aims at the ethical values of human beings. This idea can therefore make a practical contribution to innovating the teaching and learning methods of Vietnamese to speakers of other languages in particular and other languages in general.

This article analyzes the pedagogical implications of Vygotsky's theories of cultural tools, the zone of proximal development, and scaffolding in the context of teaching in schooling settings. The implications for teaching children with experiences of refugee-related trauma are also explored. Findings suggest that Vygotsky's theories provide valuable insight into the learning processes and challenges faced by these students.

The agricultural products of Thanh region are diverse and abundant: ranging from plant-based and animal-based origins in nature to processed varieties, all featuring distinctive flavors. Among these, some superior in quality have become specialties. These products are not just food for humans but also embody the culture of Thanh homeland. Vietnamese proverbs and folk songs have preserved and passed down these products through folklore from ancient times to the present, recording the culinary identity of this historically and culturally rich region and reflecting the locals' pride in their homeland. This article, based on surveys in the corpus of proverbs and folk songs combined with fieldwork methods in various localities in Thanh Hóa province, aims to highlight the literary and cultural values of these traditional sayings and songs. Additionally, the article contributes to affirming the value and quality of Thanh's specialties and promoting them to both local and distant tourists.
