Abstract

Follow the meaning of great compassion and suffering, the worship of Guanyin quickly adapted and developed by a number of countries in East Asia and Southeast Asia such as China, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Korea, etc. In Vietnam, the custom of worshiping Guanyin is a process of development, acquisition and transformation to integrate with local belief. Guan Yin in the image of a woman, associated with the belief in worshiping ofthe goddess (Mother Goddess worship) quickly has been "Vietnamization" with 33 incarnations, including the image of Guan Yin with a thousand eyes and a thousand arms. Approaching interdisciplinary research from art to history and culture, this article will study the formation of the worshiping the goddess to the worshiping Guan Yin with a thousand eyes and a thousand arms in Vietnam, thereby pointing out the tradition of worshiping the goddess and how to create the Guan Yin statue which is a basic for comparison and finding the similarities and differences in the style of creating the Guan Yin statue between Vietnam and some East Asian and some other countries in the region.
