Abstract

Abstract: Vietnam’s tourism industry is expanding rapidly, accompanied by increasing challenges related to visitor safety. Tour guides are often the first individuals to arrive at accident scenes; therefore, competence in basic first aid (BFA) is critically important. To describe the knowledge and training needs regarding basic first aid among students of the Faculty of Tourism, Thang Long University, in 2025. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 320 full-time students from March 2025 to July 2025. The proportion of students who had adequate knowledge of basic first aid was 84.7%; however, knowledge of essential survival skills—such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was only 23.1%. Most students demonstrated a positive attitude (92.2%). Training demand was very high (98.4%), yet only 29.4% had previously participated in any first-aid training. Although students exhibit substantial demand for training, their advanced practical skills remain limited. Enhanced practical instruction and real-world simulation exercises are urgently needed.
